he introduced me to Beck back in 1993. i went to music camp with the kid back when he played saxophone. i was at his chill record release party at his parents' house before he had his large one. i got back in touch with him probably a month before he died. basically, it was a combination of his depression, which was further exacerbated by the fact that people were not paying him in money, but in "favors", so as much as he was doing work for all these big named people, he wasn't making money.
shit this a shame this dude only had a few he wouda had so many more big songs depression needa be taken more serious by people around a loved one i guess shit
So about midnite, after 3-4 other DJ's had spun... Here comes Dave.. He sets up in front of the other stuff on stage. He takes 4 cinderblocks and a piece of plywood and sets up his tables on it, (maybe 18inches off the floor)... These were not just any, but GOLD technics 1200's and a little mixer that bolted it all together. I watched Disco D, after many tricks, I watched him build a song out of about 8-9 records, making sampling loops. 2 say the least, F'n AMAZING, I'll never forget it.
Gotta story... About Dave"Disco D" ... A few friends and I rode up to Nashville, I guess this was summer 1998, to see Disco D at a party. I'd heard about him from flyers mostly, at the time THE youngest DJ. He was 18. He'd already won turntable competitions and the Ghetto Tech sound he and Iceberg Slim coined was new. Anyhow, this party was in the middle of a rough part of Nashvile, in an old gas station. This was a halfass transformed place called "8th day Music Venue" continued>>>>
