Here's how I approach score preparation - the job of going from midi to notation. It's not composing; it's not performing; it's the bit in between! Plenty of composers write with midi and samples, but if there's going to be live players on the soundtrack, that midi needs to be translated into notation.

    I'm waiting for the day that good sample libraries could be effortlessly used with finale, and one could create good sounding scores that are also printing, eliminating the uneccesary stage of score preperation.
