I'm a tech. This is most likely a problem with the motherboard. You can test by connecting an external monitor and trying to replicate the problem. If its still happening you need to replace the board... not worth it. Even still, it could be the display which is also not worth it.

I have this same laptop, and it does this too, but sometimes a little worse where the white lines flicker up and down the screen. This usually happens when I boot it up, and rarely after it has been on. What is odd is that it will do it for a few days in a row, and then it will barely happen for weeks.
It has to be a loose cable because I will play the Sims 2 and it will be just fine!
I can live with this if it is harmless. Does anyone know if it's damaging, and what I can do to fix it? Thanks

Our company bought over 30 laptops from HP in Sep 2010. Model: Elitebook 6930p. In 8 of them, the LCD had to be replaced within 4 months since they developed problems like rolling display, half the screen showing junk pattern, etc. Looks like a manufacturing defect specific to the model. It is not a software issue. So, upgrading the driver will not solve the problem.

I have this laptop from my employer, the screen has had the same problem 4 times ! Each time it is sent back to HP and it develops the same problem. Worst of all, the day it came back from HP last time, it started flickering again that same day ! Appalling. I own several personal laptops and have never experienced a) such problems and b) such disastrous repair servicing

I`ve tried to take a look inside, but managed to crack the screen. Took it to a service. :(. If you want to open it, be careful, the front mask is glued to the screen with a strong duct tape.

Hi, I have the same problem. I suspect the Flex cable that is connecting the monitor to the mainboard. Post here if you have some info about this.
Me too. I've been thinking it's probably the physical connection, because when I wiggle the screen I can eventually get it to stop. I have a co-worker with an identical Elitebook 6930p and it does the same thing. It must be a problem with that model.
