For the fifth time, the Aquarium places a young white shark on exhibit. The five-foot, three-inch shark was collected by Aquarium staff August 12 near Malibu, California, and placed in the million-gallon Outer Bay exhibit on August 26.

  • By tagging and releasing white sharks we can contribute significantly to public understanding and protection of these maligned animals—an ecologically important and increasingly threatened species.

  • Is she still alive? I thought white sharks didnt survive, because they dont eat in an aquarium. Every test, that i know, they were put back into the ocean after a few weeks.

  • @ShareSmoking We've had great success exhibiting white sharks. You can learn more on our website.

  • Guys, I'm not sure how many gallons that tank is, but let me just point out. Sharks only grow as large as their environment. So if she is going to reach her full length of 18-20 feet, then the tank will have to have...maybe...800,000-1,000,000 gallon tank

  • @tommoore2012 White sharks are placed in our million-gallon exhibit, where they join many other open-ocean species, including bluefin and yellowfin tunas, bonito, barracuda, sea turtles and other sharks. This exhibit was designed to simulate the open-ocean environment and engineered with sharks in mind.

  • 2:22 Some dude giving a very awkward applause...

  • @Pineapplegirl25 at that size a great white is harmless, they are alot less aggressive than tiger or bull sharks so getting in a tank with a young baby is pretty safe at that size

  • next step in research: Black Marlin Aquarium :D

  • @robdotcom71

The aquarium cannot keep a white shark if it reaches beyond 6 feetm 200 lbs because that is the size limit for safe animal handling and transport for release. The aquarium never plans to house this species longer than 6 months, since that is how long it takes a new arrival measuring just over 4 feet to grow into 6 feet i length. This is a research program first and foremost; these animals are not pets but rather temporary research subjects for conservation science.

  • Ugh, I came over from Ireland to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in April 2009, and looks like I just missed her.

  • @robdotcom71 they need to release them into the wild when they get big enough, but they stay tagged to protect them.

  • I've noticed this is the 5th one you've had....so why not keep it?

  • one of the most depressing things i've ever seen

  • I thin sea world should have a great white on display.
