I haven't even bought this camcorder yet, and I've already produced my first video with it!

Rather than just playing with the demo camcorders at the local Best Buy, I wanted to go further. So I brought a blank mini-DV tape into the store with me for a serious test drive. The entire video was shot with the camera tethered to its 4-foot long security leash. Later I transferred the mini-DV tape to a DVD and used it, along with my Adobe Premiere Elements software, to edit a video that belongs nowhere else but YouTube!

This ended up being a very fun and interesting experiment. It just goes to show you can do something goofy and creative under *extremely* restricted conditions. Merry Christmas!

  • did you get that camcorder?

  • Yes, I've been very happy with it! It was definitely the right choice. Canon has excellent support, too, based on my experience with my digital still camera.

  • so did you get the camcorder? if so, what do you like and dislike about it?

  • Hi. Yes, I did go back and buy the camera. I've been very busy in the last 3 months, so I haven't done much with it yet beyond shooting test footage of my cats. But I'm very happy with it. Great audio, great video, lots of good features, automated controls & manual overrides. For 4 years I've had a Canon still camera, so being used to their menus, I quickly got used to this one's menus. No problems yet. So far so good!

  • the quality will be the same on either but you should go with the tape only use the sd card for pics. and yes you can use just the cable it came with if that cable happens to be a firewire cable (for use from tape) usb cable (from sd card)

  • i just bought the camera, should i use the sd card to record video like i have been doing, or should i use a tape? which is better quality? and can i take the footage from the tape and put it onto my computer just by the cable it came with?

  • the audio and image quality are surprising for a camcorder.

  • ha, oh my god your hilarious, yeah dude i got the jvc grd700 from walmart its about 300 bucks total, not that bad since it has a built in digital camera that takes an sd card, but yeah the cannon looks great, i actually considered getting that one but instead got the jvc and im very pleased with it

  • good video..the ending made me crack up lol
