This Prowler LTATV is optionally unmanned, and the system was engineered and implemented by Coastal Defense, Inc. The idea is to be able to dismount the vehicle when under fire, then drive the vehicle unmanned to provide reconnaissance, evacuation, or resupply. http://www.coastaldefenseinc.com
Indeed, and it does. The vehicle is semi-autonomous and is capable of waypoint navigation to within 1m of course, to include dead reckoning in GPS deprived areas. However, the vehicle is not 'fully' autonomous, as it cannot see it's environment and avoid obstacles. It does have a LRF looking forward to identify an object directly in the path of the vehicle, more as a safety than functional feature. In the video, there is a mix of both manual and waypoint navigation.
It's Brandon. This thing still looks awsome and unbelieveable even after I seen it in person and drove it. Let me know when there's un update. Talk to you later.
By my understanding if it's just being remotely controld it isn't Autonomous.
Autonomous means it is navigating the enviroment by itself.
