Europe's largest bioethanol refinery is nearing completion in the north east of England. Owners of the plant say it will meet one third of the UK's bioethanol demand once it's up and running. They say that's the equivalent of taking 300,000 cars off the road.

The world is running low on fuel and some now hope bioethanol will help top up the shortage. The European Union has set a target that requires each member state to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions through energy by 20% by the year 2020.

The UK aims to have 15% of all petrol and diesel sold in the UK come from renewable sources by 2020. Within that figure the road transport fuel target is 10%.

Once up and running, owners Ensus, say it will produce more than 400 million litres of bioethanol - that's one third of the UK's bioethanol demand.

We have decided to stand up and contest these falsities with supported evidence.
