Little gets me going in a pop song quite as much as a beat that really stands out—there's "Be My Baby" by the Ronettes, the "boom, boom-boom TSCH" that is now something of a hallmark in pop culture, there are a few other tunes that I won't waste time mentioning, and there's this. The song is completely stripped from every other Iraqi song I've heard in that this is just beats and vocals, the beat something I hear in, and is probably a staple rhythm of, the Choubi style. The result in this, picked up by Sun City Girls members in their side-project label Sublime Frequencies (check 'em out), featuring compilations of music across the world, is a slightly-warped 'n worn gem, on parity with the best of the West.
***PS: Anyone able to give me more info on this song or Souad Abdullah please do! I am completely enthralled.***
