Gaza: Out of Sight, Out of Mind

On October 19, The Century Foundation's Prospect for Peace Initiative held a discussion with John Ging, the Director of Operations in Gaza for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). Ging was in charge of UNRWA's Gaza operations during the recent Israeli military operation Cast Lead. He continues to oversee humanitarian services in the territory.

Given the critical role that UNRWA plays in Palestinian life in Gaza, especially in dealing with the humanitarian consequences of military activity and a closed border, Ging will offer insight into the difficult process of reconstruction and the political roadblocks that have complicated international efforts to deal with the Gaza crisis. This discussion will also consider the anomalous situation of Gazans as the Obama administration strives to kick-start final-status peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine.
