ISM created the Barbados By Locals™ series to provide you a quick look at Barbados through the eyes of those who know it best. This interview with Melanie Pitcher, surfing instructor and sixth generation Bajan, takes place at the legendary Soup Bowl, one of the world's premier surf spots.
ISM specializes in travel and lifestyle marketing for clients like Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Emirates airline, American Express Travel, and Best Western Hotels. We created the idea "The Authentic Caribbean" as a way to define and promote Barbados, our former client. Last fall, on a visit, we created and shot this series for them on our own nickel with famous Bajan photographer and videographer Ronnie Carrington. We didn't want these great stories to go to waste. So here they are. If you haven't been, you owe yourself a visit to Barbados. It really is The Authentic Caribbean.

  • cool!

  • Shut up! You could fit a bus in your mouth. Soon, Bathsheba will look like Jaco beach. Why must people blow everything up on the internet? Can't people just earn it anymore???

  • @newmoonblues

Hmmm.I have been to Bim many times, the only time i've had grief is from the paros, asking for change or cigarettes.Crime happens the world over, nowhere is paradise, vigilance must be exercised everywhere.I understand you are angry about what happened to you and how it tarnished your image of Barbados but hopefully you try the place again and experience a better time.I have been many places and experienced hostility also but always Bim is the first the place on our list :)

  • I went to Barbados with a buddy in 1981. While surfing Bathsheba, the ghetto locals broke into our car and ripped us off. We watched them do it while in the water. Like all other islands in the Carib, it's a ghetto island. But I'm sure it's much worse today. Save your money and go to any of the other beautiful 3rd World places on the planet that have better surf.

  • nice vid of my old stomping gronds :) love it keep up the good work. CropOver here I come 2010!!!
