Care is needed when practicing using a leg sweep to defend against a side kick, because it can injure an Uke's knee. Learn how to use a leg sweep to defend against a side kick in this free Aikido video featuring a 4th degree black belt.
@leoleunghk Not likely. Also you've got your front hand free to control the attacker's front hand (and giving him a little bit more rotation to take him down).
@JohnnyBoyCali Aikido's power is deceptive because of its fluidity. Its counterattacks(though lacking finishing moves) will almost always set you up for side control (if so desired). It may lack the brutality of MMA styles but it is hardly to be underestimated. Your lack of respect and understanding is disgraceful. Remove yourself from this page.
@nadir6661 Although I am not sure i agree with how effective it could be against MMA it is in indeed a difficult art to apply to real world scenarios. Your english is fine by the way. :)
@nadir6661 this is easy... i catch kicks all the time in kyokushin class... theres so many things i could do sweeps or even a right round house to the head while i still have his leg.
@JohnnyBoyCali Akido is one of hardest matrial arts to matser ,to use Aikdo technics in the real world you have to be 3d black belt deegre an up . if though a person is up to that degree ,could put in shame and lots of pain 5 mma fighiters attiking at the same time tust me Akido has mixed martial art technics from the time that if u were the looser u were the dead man xcuse my poor english
