The mighty James River of VA flows from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the bountiful Chesapeake Bay. Along the way there is a variety of fishing for plenty of different game fish. Every Spring, Stripers from the ocean spawn up the James River into the fresh water. There is a short and amazing window of catching hard fighting stripers in skinny water. This is a short unedited video of what can take place in 10 minutes. In 3 hours over 25 fish were landed with the largest being 36 inches.

  • I live in the Richmond VA area. I would love to get out of the crappie and pumpkin seed rut I'm in. I'd love to catch some sweet fish like that. I'm looking for some people to go fly fishing with. Please get in touch with me. Great video!

    hello,

my name is Joe. drop me your email and we can hook with some fishing.

    have a great day.

  • Great video - looks like a pretty nice reel you've got there - can you list the tackle you are using - rod length/wt rating, reel, line, leader and fly - looks like a Clouser or deceiver? Nice work. Just gearing up for flyfishing stripers in surf and stream over here in lower Delaware. Have 13/14 wt 9' Colton Leviathan rod on the way but my reel is a medium arbor, smaller. Will get a better reel next time.

  • Hey bloodknot... it is an orvis Mach 5 LA. I don't think they make them anymore. I found it 1/2 off. Orvis dumps stuff when they are upgrading. It has taken plenty of salt water and I have never had a problem with it. the rod is an Orvis TSL 8 weight i think. I also use a TFO pro series x 9 weight with a Old Fla. 66 LA real. Old Fla changed names to Nautilus but that real is bomb proof. I have a 300 grain sinking on the TFO set up and floating on the Orvis you see in the video.

  • Where is this? In Richmond? I'm in Richmond. If you care to show me how to do this in the spring I'll take you out on my boat for some monster catfish!

  • I would be glad to show you where this is and I would love some big cat action.

  • How do you access this area?, I assume you're on the downtown side of the river. Looks like a blast!

  • Nice fish man. I got into em on May 15th last year down at the fall line. Unfortunately I didn't have my yak or fly rod with me, but got 14 in an hour and a half. Shad will be here soon, and right behind them, the big boys.

  • good information - thanks very much. hope you can show some more fly fishing striper videos - nice work!
