Having been in Law Enforcement many years it's amazing how much powder comes out the muzzle prior to the round itself. If they would have showed a video such as this at the police academy it would have helped some officers understand the science behind stipling(powder burns) in relation to how close the muzzle was in some cases such as point blank, 1 foot ,and so on. Many a "suicides" turned out to not be suicides when the reporting party had their hands subjected to a Gunpowder residue swipe.

@m199611 You're wrong. The slide begins to move backwards as soon as the bullet starts moving. It's not obvious in this video but look at others and it is really obvious.

@tehgreatmutato The slide and barrel are recoiling, the bullet leaves before the link pulls the barrel out of lock with the slide.
