Milos Forman took out a million dollar insurance policy on Courtney, which included regular drug testing, and the deal was that he would hire her for the role if she stayed clean. And she did! Even when clean and sober, and playing a sad character, she managed to pull off some damn good acting. She's not some gimmick; she's got substance.
