@blogwitch what is the bennefit of a fireing every stoke or every othe stroke?
is there a HP difference or a torque difference?
how would this affect the hp/rpm ratio?
-
It'd be cool if it could "change gears" by going from every stroke to every other stroke, to every 4th stroke.
-
well now its time to test it out for work on a generator and see what it will do.
if nothing else its a neat toy.

Very imaginative., and beautifully made.

nice engine, any way to put governer weights on it to make it fire when it slows down like a true hit and miss engine? May have to make a little larger engine though.
-
in air?
-
Sounds coolest when running on every fourth stroke.
-
cool, make a really big one, put it in a motorbike and sell it as the first 8 stroke motorbike, bingo, you're a bazillionaire.
(give me some of your money when your rich)
so that is a 1 stroke 2 stroke and a 4 stroke?

Starting from the first one, 8 stroke, 4 stroke, 2 stroke cycles.
Each in and out is classed as two strokes.

Runs well indeed, like a little clock.
Is the variable cycle of practical utility, or is it more like a proof of point exercise?
I confess to being far from comprehension of this elegant little engine.
Much enjoyed nonetheless!

It was built to see if I could simulate a hit and miss engine using air, one lobe cam. Then it occured to me that it could easily be modified to simulate a four stroke and a two stroke. I occasionally display my collection of home builds at steam rallies. So this one hopefully will show basically how the different cycles look and sound like, without all the valve gubbins.
