John's first job was at Papa Johns. He worked part time folding pizza boxes. He got very, very good at it. He won international box folding competitions. At some point, he retired from box folding to pursue a music career. Often, if out with friends at a pizza joint, John would take the bill to the manager with a wager. He'd say, "I'll bet you this entire bill that I can fold that stack of 100 boxes in less than three minutes." With all the cavalier assurance of a virtuoso, he'd fold the boxes with time to spare. The resulting sound of the gestural efficiency was incredible: perforation, corrugation, surface, volume, stack. How to Fold Boxes is a stack of foley sounds (and foleyed foley sounds) which pays homage to all of virtuosos of mundane actions.
