In 1819 Anton Diabelli invited a number of composers associated with or living in Austria to compose one variation each on his own theme, a waltz. These variations were to be published by Diabelli's own firm, under the title Vaterländischer Künstlerverein. Of the composers invited, 51 responded favorably, but today only Beethoven's famous 33 Variations are well-known. Of the other 50, among them Carl Czerny, Ignaz Moscheles, and W.A. Mozart's youngest son, Franx Xaver, thirty-three are presented here in addition to the theme and coda (by Carl Czerny). All the typos in the composers' names, as well as the performer's, found on the cover have been corrected.
