La musica di Rokia Traoré getta le sue
radici nell'Africa, più specificamente
nel suo Mali, ma si discosta molto
da quella dei suoi conterranei più legati
alla tradizione, in virtù delle tradizioni
e delle culture, a volte diversissime,
con cui ha avuto la possibilità di entrare
in contatto. La songwriter scrive, infatti,
canzoni secondo la più classica
metodologia occidentale, ovvero
articolando melodie sulla chitarra
e muovendone le trame per assecondare
musica e parole (in lingua madre),
che vivono in profonda simbiosi
con l'emotività del gesto musicale.
Esempio ne sia il suo ultimo album,
Tchamantché, in cui la voce della Traoré
si muove sinuosa, soave, quasi accennata,
mentre le parole sono quelle di chi,
in Africa, deve fare i conti con le necessità
basilari: acqua potabile, cibo, vestiti,
un riparo.
The music of Rokia Traoré strikes roots
into Africa, and more specifically into the
Mali of her origins, but greatly differs from
the music of her more traditional fellowcountrymen
by virtue of the very different
traditions and cultures she had the chance
of meeting. The Malian songwriter follows
the classic Western composition method,
organizing melodies on her guitar, moving
them around and matching music and
words (in her mother tongue) that live in
mutual symbiosis with the emotions of the
musical gesture. See her latest album,
Tchamantché, where Traoré lends her soft
and gentle voice to all those Africans who
daily tackle all basic necessities: drinkable
water, food, clothes, shelter.
