  • Thanks for the comment calbern49! My local small engine retailer only had the Troy Bilts in stock, so I didn't know about the BearCat. Yes, I've also "learned" to cut down brush a certain way for feeding, and sift/feed leaves slowly... and I certainly don't feed any branches larger then 2" dia. However, I have been pleased with the mulch I created for my planting bed islands, which eliminated the yearly pine bark mulch delivery I was taking.

  • I have had the 10 HP version of this machine since 2007. You are very correct about the the 'pain in the neck' process of clearing machine-stopping material jams. Even when the greenery to be shredded is cut down to proper size, the shredder feed still jams due to the poor design of the shredder chute. The material has to be 'sifted' very slowly to prevent clogs.

    If you can, 'road test' one of these machines before you buy one. I wish that I had! If I had, I would have bought a BearCat!
