If you're in high school and cosmetology is an interest, try to get on with a local cosmetology group and not as a volunteer but a paid position. You may start by answering phones and sweeping up and such, but you'd be around people doing that work and you'd learn the in's and out's of the business. Volunteer work helps you strengthen your skill set for a resume. You're young and most employers will realize you don't have a lot of work experience, so I would worry so much about that right now.

Hi. Yes, a resume would be a good idea. What type of career are you interested in? I think starting a portfolio would be a good idea. I'm guessing you don't have a ton of work experience, which a resume highlights. A portfolio is more of a collection of things you've accomplished to date and show examples of accomplishments to date. Some career fields are better served by a portfolio. A resume is included in the portfolio. If you do a resume now, focus on highlighting your skills.
