  • OMG!!! You can't even believe that Sylvio and Tonio are the same singer and actor!! Gobbi TOTALLY changes his vocal timbre, shading and color as well as the physical characterization for the two distinct roles. Absolute genius!!

  • I think some people are confused. I don't think that's Tito Gobbi on the screen playing Tonio, but the actor is lip-synching to Gobbi's voice.......however, I think Gobbi DOES appear in the prologue, which is generally played on stage by whoever is playing Tonio, but it looks like Gobbi himself is both singing AND acting the part of Sylvia......a little confusing.

  • Absolutely Beautiful !!! Makes me cry , the tendernss !!! This is love as we dream , few experience , though I have . Tito Gobbi and Onelia Fineschi sing devinely , Gina Lollobrigida gives all the beauty of youth . Devine Singing !!!

  • I just love singers the earlier Generation... Sooo much passion...just amazing.... If I would ever be as half as great as Tito Gobbi was, I would know that my mission is accomplished! Thanks for the post

  • All those old opera films were really great! I remember seeing them all as a young boy. They really did it for me and i was hooked on opera from then on! Much better than these HD broadcasts with these junk singers of today!

  • Beautiful performance.

BTW - Sophie Loren was the visual to the singing of Renata Tebaldi in 1951 Film "Aida".

  • Very lovely indeed! Bravi! TY Candy

  • Gobbi was Opera's great chameleon!

Who would believe that the light

ravishing lyricism of his Silvio could

    become the dark, menacing, night-

marish sound of his Scarpia or

Iago! Gobbi, Fineshi and Gina Lollo

are all superb in this splendid historic

film! Thank you to Oneguin65 for

uploading and to digogam for so

    generously sharing!

  • These singers belong to a completely different class, which is very very rarely met today, sadly.

  • I like this scene.

  • Gobbi sings good very very much
