I thought it's about time I uploaded a song by one of my favourite groups: The Four Tops. These guys were/are one of the greatest bunch of vocalists and were part of the definitive classic motown era. This is also one of my favourite tracks of theirs, it's one which you dont hear too often, and when you do you think "Why wasn't this one of their biggest hits!" I hope you all like it. What else is interesting is that in the climate of motown groups having noticeable personnel changes; the original line up of Abdul Fakir, Levi Stubbs, Obie Benson and Lawrence Payton remained unchanged for 44 years until the sad demise of Payton in 1995. 'Duke' Fakir is still a 'Top' to this day.
Anyway, listen to these masters at work, and you'll fall in love (or more in love!) with that unmistakeable Four Tops sound.

  • Apparently one cannot copy their own "comment" and use it in the email they send someone! I just did that only to find my comment here had been removed! Oh, well, I love the Four Tops along with Motown in general. The wonderful music that was the backdrop to our youth. We were blessed to have come along at a time when music of this quality prevailed. Thanks for this post - again!

  • @Hulloder--I can't agree more. Absolute genius.

  • This is the best bass playing in the history of pop music.

  • It seems Motown is getting quite popular again right now, a lot of my friends are really into the older music of the 60's and 70;s and artists like the Motown groups, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones etc etc nice to see that my generation (i'm 18) wont put up with the top 40 rubbish :D
