An obsure horror/comedy released in 1974, 'Blood for Dracula' is a film directed by Paul Morrissey and produced by Andy Warhol and Andrew Braunsberg starring Udo Kier, a German actor, known primarily for his work in horror and exploitation movies.

A sickly and dying Count Dracula (Kier), who must drink virgin blood to survive, travels from Transylvania to Italy, thinking he will be more likely to find a virgin in a Catholic country.

Blood for Dracula was initially released to theaters in a 103-minute version that was given an X rating by the MPAA due to its violent and sexual elements; it was later cut to 94 minutes and reclassified with an R rating for re-release. The original uncut version has been released to DVD several times, though it is now unrated.

... if it would be allowed; much like the other film ' flesh of frankenstein' by the same director and producers the year before, this film has far to many completely nude and sexually explicit scenes for uploading here on the 'Tube'. Look for it in a local video store, on the internet as a 'torrent', or possibly thru Netflix?? Target carry's a restored widescreen dual layer DVD of 'flesh of frankenstein' for around $13. Amazon has dvd of 'blood for dracula' for around $15

Haven't seen this one before, and I have watched plenty of vampire flicks, so thanks for posting:) I can definitely sense the subtle humor that you mentioned and I'll have to look into this one further:)

Proceed with caution my friend, uncut version has plenty of explicit sex scenes and Dracula's demise is a lil bit like that of the Black Knight in Monty Pythons 'Search for the Holy Grail'.

Well this movie ain't so obscure. It's fairly well-known and popular, .. with Warhol fans and fans of the vampire genre anyway.

This film is genius. basic premise: Dracula as an effete Junkie/sex pervert. Udo is God , but Joe Dellesandro gets some good lines too. A real hoot.
