Wow - great memories! I'd love to see some of the shows from1971 through 1973. I'm not sure they would live up to this performance, though.

I think we marched 120 in the wedge in 1974. Chris Lanzafame was stylin' as the point of the wedge. The band went co-ed in the fall of 1973. I can pick myself out during "America" because I march all the way to the goal line. :-)

I love hearing Hail to California being sung. And wow, I was really surprised how loudly you could hear the Stanfurd fans singing "Dirty Golden Bear!"

i noticed they didn't do the "oh say can UC!" and "the rocket's BLUE glare" back then...do you guys know when this started?

My guess is that there were about 130 members in this Cal Band. Today, there are 230 members.

I noticed that the band is slightly smaller, about one "swoosh" after the script-L. What was added to the band (i.e. was the mixture changed, or was it just one extra of each instrument?) And curious, were there women in the band back then? Yeah, yeah, I know, you had electricity back then too :) Hey, check out how you can hear the Stanfurd words to "Fight for California"
