Don't feel bad, Barbara was just phoning it in. She was partying with MIT grad students the night before and threw that volcano together the hour before the contest. Originally she had intended to present her modified HIV strain which binds to specific receptor proteins found in certain cancer cells. Unfortunately she does not yet have a patent and the hotel would not allow her to bring HIV+ chimpanzees into the building.
