  • VAT solving the deficit problem? Have they ever thought about you know...CUTTING SPENDING, like a normal person has to do when they get in a financial rut.

  • VAT stands for value added tax. Where the hell is this value they are adding?

Everything we buy in Europe, except government subsidized items, is 2 to 5 times more expensive than the same product in the US. That means we are far poorer even if we earn the same money.

The VAT in my country is 20%, in Denmark it is 25%. Its like the government reaches into your pocket and takes 25% of your money.

With the VAT half of the cost is just collection costs. It is a supper inefficient way to tax people.

  • Its so easy, they only have to stop spending.

  • Im not saying that vat is good for your economy but france is not a poor country...cut spendings is better!!

  • CUT THE SPENDING YOU BASTARDS!!!

  • In Canada we pay a 'goods&services' tax of 5% which has worked well since we had budget surpluses for a decade & we reduced our debt accordingly. Its a very fair tax in that everyone pays it. It can't be avoided & the more u spend the more u pay. No tax on food. Also it does work bcuz we had govts that were committed to debt reduction. Any new tax is pointless if u don't reduce spending concurrently. Ur military spending I'm sure is much much higher than anyone suspects.

  • They didn't give Daniel the last word..

  • Progressive......such a filthy word...

    On ALL levels.....

  • The point Mr. Mitchell makes about 2 minutes in about spending causing the deficit is interesting.

  • The VAT actually seems like a good idea in the sense that it will be applied more evenly to economic activity, hopefully reducing the distortions to incentives that taxes cause. And if it replaces more complicated income taxes, then complexity will be less of an issue.

  • I am a registered libertarian who will be supporting republican Debra Medina for Texas Governor. Thank you Glenn Beck for your slanderous attack on Ms. Medina, you have created a ground swell army for her to take her and her constitutionist ideals to victory!

  • Yeah, I saw Dan talk about it before. Check out the 10/14/2009 video on afq2007's page.
