History of the clocks at Reception

The clock to the right of desk est. circa 1850 was manufactured in 14 Wicklow Street by George Dobbyn. Watch, clock and chronometer maker whose manufacturing workshop was at 14 Wicklow Street, Dublin circa 1845 to 1854, "Watchmaker and Clockmaker to Her Majesty's offices and the Irish Railways." In 1875 he was advertising as 'Watch Clock & Timepiece Makers to the Hon. Board of Public Works and Irish railways'.

The clock on the left of desk was manufactured by Edward Smith. This watch, clock and chronometer maker traded at Jervis Street, Dublin from 1801-c.1858.
Estimated year of manufacture 1810.

It is worth noting that the crown on both clocks is curved and not decorated as with English manufactured clocks. This plain curve was unique to Irish clock makers only.
