Comparing the second "Tetsuwan Atom" opening, used for eps 30-77 (7/23/63-5/9/64), to its American counterpart.
Eps 1-29 (1/1/63-7/16/63) used the same footage, but an instrumental version of the theme. When the American company added lyrics, Dr. Tezuka liked it so much he added lyrics to his version.

  • @Lehnerd57 i think there was only one color episode in the 1960's version, so you must be thinking of the 80's version.

  • Excellent mixing at the start (your intro comparing the 2 versions) and nice to have subtitling for the Japanese original version.

  • Its nice that every kid still knows who Astro Boy is today, 47 years ago.

  • @fisher10000 The line before "laugh at danger" says "cosmic ranger" hope it helped you.

  • What is the line right before "laugh at danger" in the English version? I can never understand it! Thanks

  • One of his last animated works was the first episode of "Stories from the Bible" (The Genesis).

It is a series that was commissioned by our RAI Tv and the Vatican, and completed after his death. The first episode is particularly fascinating, for the way Tezuka depicts the "serpent" in Eden, and the dinosaurs after the fall.

  • Wow a voice over this time, lol cool.

  • Yet, it was Tezuka who pioneered the half-hour Japanese TV cartoon series, and made it "profitable". Once "TETSUWAN ATOM" became a success in early 1963, other Japanese studios followed [TCJ, Tatsunoko, etc.], with most of their series coming to the U.S. There is ONE connection, though; Pablo Zavala, who worked with Fred Ladd as an editor on "ASTRO BOY", eventually set up his own production company, Zavala-Riss...and they translated "MACH GO-GO-GO" into "SPEED RACER" in '67...

  • did they colorized this later around 1969 i not sure but do remember it bein In color

  • Okay Taoku i sorry for error but still Dr.Tezuka was a great person
