Originally, this song was popularized by Harry Belafonte in praise of the Caribbean Islands... This ditty came from a movie of the same title shown in the '50s..However, the original tune came from New Zealand. I captured some Maori artists warbling this tune in their native language during last year's CNE festivities...
Now I adapted the melody to express many of our country men's love and longing for our native land. Finding a Youtube posting featuring Victor Wood I could not resist using that video clip with some photos which I took in Asingan last year..
Anyone who grew up in our country will always long for the familiar sights and sounds of the old hometown which still look the same, maybe..Even if the buildings have changed, many could not forget the original dwellings that were there and the people living in those houses.
Let us take at least a few more trips back to the Motherland. We owe it to her and to ourselves if not for anything else...Remember that life is short, and any day is the right time to board a Philippine bound airplane. Nothing compares to the euphoria of arriving at the NAIA and stepping once more on Philippine soil---#
