A full day's sail out of Finike and heading toward Herzliya, which is two days away, we are visited by a bird who stops for a short rest on our standing rigging. A quick review of our chart suggested that our visitor might have come from Cyprus, which was less than a day's sail, but wow such endurance.
There were actually several birds, you may have caught a glimpse of one of them in the background, that were coming and going periodically during this part of the trip. On a previous occasion a bird actually fell on our deck too tired, or possibly injured, to fly. We tried to revive it with water and food, and let it rest in an inverted hat, but it eventually expired. We wonder how many other birds don't make it when they attempt such journeys that lack resting places.
