As far as national championship games go, there isn't one any better than this. Two schools steeped in tradition with legendary coaches in the Bear & Ara. Though for some reason, this game never seems to get the recognition it deserves. The lead changed hands six times. With the final minutes of the game like a chess match, the Bear deciding to punt, nailing ND deep in it's own territory, only to have Ara gamble on 3rd down & run out the clock.

I can remember this game so clearly. I live in California and my friends and I waited till this game was over before going to a New Year's Eve Party. Was so happy with the win. Made the night even better.

What interesting listening to is Cosell rooting for notre dame and wilkinson obviously pulling for alabama.
