You'll be disappointed, but I'm not. I used to play tennis often, but now I play very rarely. I actually prefer basketball, because I used to play it professionally in the lower leagues. Still play basketball at least 2 or 3 times a week.
On the other hand, I was never boring to spend 5 or 6 hours of watching tennis, somehow, to me it's simply more enjoyable to watch than to play, which clearly shows how good tennis player I am. :)))

@skovara23 HAHA! I guess you are right! Ivan Lendl barely was let go from Czekoslovakia!
So, Indian Wells soon commencing (March 5th) will almost all the top guys in it! Aren't we just lucky that we have the chance to learn form all these great players?
I guess you are a tennis player yourself, right?

Well, that player looks like he comes from Russian cosmic program. :)))
Seriously, mix of Borg's defense skills and McEnroe with strong, modern forehand and more gym... that would be almost ideal and closest to player capable to defeat Nadal or Djokovic. But I doubt Russians would let him play tennis. :))

@skovara23 You may be right.. BUT how about this though experiment: Björn Borg is not too dissimilar to Nadal.. he played with a lot of top spin double handed backhand and had great passing shots and great security plus could play 5 hours no problem.. and McEnroe beat Borg.. now, for sure the technology now is much more advanced and the game is much more physical.. but imagine a McEnroe with a modern forehand who went more to the gym... he would still have his touch.. UH-OOHH!!! ;-)

That's the main problem when we compare tennis that is played today and tennis that Mc played. It's much more about phisical strenght today, if I could somehow imagine match between Nadal and Mc (from his best), I'm affraid I would bet on Nadal. McEnroe had unique technique and talent that Nadal will never have and it was real enjoy to watch an old scholl servis - volley games, instead od today's pretty boring base line players, but... I think Mc would have no chance.

@skovara23 Yes... luckily we have YT so people who are really interested in tennis get a second chance.. there are several great clips of Mac out there.. in my eyes the guy is a true artist... I have not seen anyone else playing with such an imagination and touch ability.. Leconte was not too bad either, and also still has great touch..
The game is so much faster now that perhaps that style would not be possible today.. would be fun to see what a young McEnroe would play like today!

How young he was here! Yes, some masterpiece touches in this clip...
About McEnroe... I just wanted to say it's strange that most of people, although he was brilliant player and dead serious (as you said and I agree) in his winning intentions, somehow couldn't separate McEnroe player and McEnroe "showman" and it seems it was to the detriment of McEnroe player. It's a shame, cause he wasn't just an ordinary talent, he had something special in his touch, it's obvious.

@skovara23 I don't FYI, think that Federer is the best guy ever... besides if someone annoys you and annoys you and.. are you going to react or just, like Jesus, turn the other chin? Also, I do not see Federer as a great manipulator.. but if you find some clips that challenge my point of view, I'm always open to adjust.. for sure the next meeting Djokovic - Federer will be interesting as the whole of 2012 is, now with Nadal playing better and Murray, too!
-
@skovara23 OK! Seems we agree about a lot, after all! Yes, Seles was playing great..
Please search for this clip on YT: "1985(Jan) Masters F McEnroe vs Lendl"... now, you can say that McEnroe's a showman.. I don't agree at all, actually... I think he was dead serious... and a spoilt brat.. but anyway.. check out those drop volleys and that attack game.. I REALLY miss seeing touch.. I really like Federer's game, but I think even he does not have McEnroe's touch..

I agree, Pete Sampras was phenomenal! I also liked Becker, these two were my favorites. It's pity that I have actually never managed to accept McEnroe as a player, he was always some kind of showman in my eyes, but no doubt he was a great player, too.
Talking about women, I liked Henin, cause it was impressive that so tiny girl with brilliant technique was capable to constantly defeat such a muscular girl as Serena W.
Monika Seles was my favorite girl.
that's thumbs down for your video
