If you were sleeping on this houseboat and it was dark, you wouldn't escape the turbulent water even if you were an Olympic swimmer. It took less than 1 minute. Only the roof and walls floated. The loud snap is because the hull separated from the superstructure and sank, snapping dock lines like twine. Recorded June 15, 2005 at approximately 4pm local. Weather conditions were as follows: Partly cloudy, 85F, winds gusting to 23kts from the W. Waves were 1-2 feet immediately prior to sinking (see whitecaps in distance). Barometer 29.73 and falling.

  • How deep is that water?

  • @MtaBus5102 40 feet

  • Wtf, How could it sink, hole in the hull?

  • @SC00TERSanders There are numerous holes through the hull of any houseboat. Intake and bilge seacocks, depth sounder transducers, drive units, exhaust ports... every one leaks. Some more than others. It just got low enough to have the waves wash over the engine compartment.

  • I bet the marina owner is going to be pissed when he sees the damage to his dock. Notice all of that floating wood? I bet there is even more structural damage to the wood. I am going to take a guess the owner of that house boat does not have insurance and will leave the cleanup/salvage costs to the marina owner.

  • @stevenabb this wasn't a very classy marina...

  • waves like to come over the transom of some houseboats. Once pumped out the eng compartments of a 60 footer, 2 volvos under water. Had them both running in 2 hours. the boat was at a dock with the stern facing the lake. bilge pumps drained all batteries, and couldnt keep up.
