I regretted that I didn't tell my father those words, "No dad, you don't understand - I'm supposed to go with this man."

In those days, Yoganandaji sometimes did accept children into the ashram, and my parents had been wanting to get me out of the house. Could I have become an SRF monk? For years I regretted not having experienced the physical presence of my guru. Was that regret reasonable?

This is the ending of the long version of My Encounter. In this video I explore the implications of my 1947 encounter with Paramahansa Yogananda.

  • Good comment! The problem for philosophers is this: "If God is all good and all powerful, then how could he create individuals so lacking in wisdom that they would use their free will to choose evil"?

The answer, from human perspective, is that God chose to plant the seed of evil deep within creation by creating Satan (the Indian Maya). From our perspective, Satan is evil and pain is the result of playing his game.

But from God's view, evil is an illusion. Our job: Escape into reality.

  • Maybe when He first individualized He forgot who He was. lol. Although one story is that the first souls were all gods and Were Self aware that they were One with God. But then one (Lucifer) wanted to be separate and powerful unto himself. So to experience separateness it was necessary for him to incarnate into a separate form (physical). The problem is when this happened all the souls who made this choice forgot who they really were.

  • I would say that "evil" is really just individuals using their free will to try and be separate from God. As long as there is free will (which is absolutely necessary) there will always be the possibility of beings choosing to try to be separate. Note I say "try" since the deepest truth is everything is One and sustained by the ONE or God. Even demons.
