Professor Edward Adelson's amazing Checker Shadow Optical Illusion. Created by Adelson, professor of visual science at MIT in 1995.

Think this is FAKE? Try it yourself!
1. Open it in Photoshop and erase everything except squares A & B
OR
2. Print it out and cut out the two squares.

  • at first i even thought that the part where your using photoshop was also fake, but ive actually tried it myself using MS paint(im not so impressionate lol), it is absolutely unbelievable. I guess the reasons why our eyes got 'tricked' are because of our capabilities to interpret the image in 3d as well as using the squares around A & B to distinguish the relative brightness of the color. Correct me if im wrong cause im no pro...Good video!

  • @leetommy91 I'm glad that you enjoyed my video. When I originally saw this optical illusion I didn't believe it either and thought it was fake. This is when I tried it out myself in photoshop and was surprised by the fact that it actually works and is quite amazing. I am not pro either but I believe that the way you explained it is correct. Again, thank you very much for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed my video :).

  • What song is this?

  • Yesterday, I was at "The Puzzling Place" in Keswick UK, where this illusion is on the wall. They also provide a piece of white card with the two lozenge shapes cut out so you can cover all the picture except the "squares", see for yourself that they are the same and then uncover and re-cover them until you are convinced they really are the same.

  • Edward Adelson is a genius!

  • This is exactly how I verified it for my self and later proved it to my friends.

  • @Jestiro You for real?.. nah you can't be!

  • amazed? im pissed off! lol

  • @B0nd0fw1nd I'm just bein a jackass. Lol.

  • @Jestiro If your gonna give a bogus excuse to this illusion at least TRY to make it sound credible or even reasonable for that matter (Latest breaking issue: SIMILAR LOOKING SQUARES CREATED BY SATAN ARE DECIEVING RELIGOUS LEADERS AROUND THE WORLD!!!!......BULL SHIT!)

  • Love this trick! Super cool! What is the music playing in the background? Anyone know?
