I hate when christians/religious/believers kinds of people ask you a totally absurd or make a totally absurd comment, and you are left speechless, they think they've won the debate.... it frustrates me so much!!

If I ever get the honor of seeing Professor Dawkins in a lecture or debate(which might be pretty rare considering I live in Wisconson,which he mentions in his book The God Delusion)I'd ask him how we as "Carl Sagen" athiests (Smart athiests)can break away from this stereotype of being "Marlyn Manson athiests" gloomy, pessimistic, gore loving immoral pricks people always take us for(think TheAmazingAthiest or better yet SatrinineFilms).

I'd like to recommend a pretty good book I read that destroys John (as well as the books authored by that author). It's called "This Tragic Gospel: How John Corrupted the Heart of Christianity." It's by Louis A. Ruprecht Jr.

Obviously it is written from a theistic perspective, but it's a much more intelligent work than you might see out of most Christian authors.

It all stems from John's evangel, in which he insists that Jesus is God. The Council of Nicea found that it suited their purposes and included it in the cannon. Without John's works it could be assumed from the text that Jesus was a mortal prophet. The "holy spirit" is the presence of God in this world. The doctrine of the Trinity is absurd. Three distinct persons...that's polytheism, but no Christian will admit that. In my understanding of the Bible, the view is pantheistic.

I don't see the point in believing in 3 invisible separate and same beings, who live in an invisible golden palace with a large iron gate on a cloud/in another dimension is/are somehow everything and also nothing and also anything.

The Greek gods are mythology. However, the Greeks weren't blind enough to follow it without thought. In fact, Greeks created these gods because they simply had no idea how crops grew or how clouds rained.

To provide a possible explanation, the Greeks developed mythology in which they worshiped the gods for a good harvest or for clouds to rain.
