  • It as a fun production to be in too, oboewizard. The word changes (e.g. skiffle bands for German bands) was an attempt to make the song fit the 'new' setting.

  • German bands - played Wagner imperfectly!!!! Why are they changing the text? Otherwise fun production! (I noticed Hildebrand changed the words in the Act II finale too. What's up with that?

  • @garybeer ByeBye Ida !

  • Bye Bye Birdie meets Princess Ida. Cute as it can be. I've loved all the clips from this production that have been posted. Thanks!

  • Love this version!

  • This is neat, I'm involved with a production of Princess Ida this year and my dad plays Gama, and I find he does it very well, and this guy in the video is a little choppy.

  • Oh he's not acting!... The bloke who played it is like that in real life.

  • I really rather like this interpretation of King Gama. I think there is a temptation with this role (a temptation not avoided by even Doyly Carte baritones) to play Gama rather as a leering pantomomime king and this can occasionally slip into being over mannered. This version however is very enjoyable and a novel interpretation, well done!
