READ THE DESCRIPTION:

A ton of people have sent me messages about this video. This is the deal:

My cousin and I take a 10 lb block of dry ice and throw it in the surf to see what happens. Dry ice is so cold as that it will freeze water/anything instantly. It works best when under pressure and touching metal or another good conductor. Under the water or even just out in air, it sublimes from solid to turn directly into gaseous carbon dioxide. There is no liquid phase. It does not melt into C02 liquid. It is the same toxic gas that you breathe out of your body, just condensed and cooled into a solid form.

When i'm holding it, I dont burn my hands as I have a bunch of sand under it to insulate it. You cant see this in the video. Every time you hear me yell, its literally because its "burning" my hands by the act of touching it. Its so cold that it causes pain to even come in contact with it. At the end of the video I pick the block up without being burned. I have a giant blob of sand between my hands and the ice, and still I cant hold it for long. It froze the sand solid in a few seconds.

If you are at the beach and want to try this, the stuff is really easy to buy. We got ours for a couple bucks by bribing one of those guys who walks the beach selling ice cream, they keep them in their coolers.

A lot of the ice cream trucks have them too. Most fish stores will likely have it. Its not illegal to purchase/own, but even when kept in the freezer a block that size will disappear in a week or so.

Have fun!

  • Dry Ice is about negative 100 to negative 109 degrees If you just poke it really fast it just feels cold. But if you hold large amounts, you can get serious frostbite. There is even this trick where you put a small sliver in your mouth and blow out smoke rings.

  • 0:06 how come the water was yellow after the wave?!
