Moss stitch is very close to Seed stitch. Gives a very nice and simple look.

  • Good reminder. Thanks. I put a marker at one edge of my work. When the marker is at the beginning of the row, I knit the knits and purl the purls. When the marker is at the end of the row, I knit the purls and purl the knits.

  • @J4zberg Excellent.

  • Is this knit one stitch, purl one stitch??

  • @emmauk1234 Yes.

  • Way too fast! I can't see what you are doing at all!

so is it KpKpKpKp, then PKPKPK or what???

  • @ripcalwill Yes. You would repeat the same row twice, then do the opposite for the next two rows and then start over.

  • Much too fast. I can't see what you're doing at all when you wrap the yarn around.

  • how they lie on the needle is something that you learn by looking at your stitches.

cast on and knit one row. every stitch has the v shape. turn it over and they look like little loops.

at 0:30 her first stitch is a knit. its not very clear but its a knit. the second and third stitches are easier to ID.

for example her third stitch is also a knit as it looks like the classic V shape. the second stitch is a purl as it has a round piece of wool in a circular shape.

  • @genevieveivy the purl stitches have a bump in the front, and knit stitches have the bump in the back I believe. Check out theknitwitch views to get a more clear view on how to do the basics

  • I’m guessing seed stitch is a 2 row repeat:

    Right side row: *KP* repeat

Wrong side row: Purl the knit stitches and Knit the purl stitches.

Is Moss stitch a 4 row repeat?

Row 1 (Right Side): *KP* repeat

Row 2 (Wrong Side): Knit the Knit stitches and Purl the Purl stitches

    Row 3: *PK* repeat

Row 4: same as row 2

  • Right side row: *KP* repeat

Wrong side row: Purl the knit stitches and Knit the purl stitches.

    Your verbal instructions are unclear.

"Do the opposite of how your stitch lying on the needle."

"Do exactly how the stitches lie on your needle."

    What does this mean?

I can’t tell from the video, because it goes out of focus every time you move. And I can’t see, because you cover each stitch you are knitting with your left thumb.

I'll try to write this out after watching a few more times

  • WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY TOO FAST... is it simply 1 knit, 1 purl? i used to klnit often, took classes and then i stopped after i had my girls so basically i'm trying to get back into it, soooo this was too fast and had minimal explanation...i could be completely off but thtats my opinion. any way to s;ow it down???

  • I agree with a previous poster, please show what you mean by "how they lie on the needle" how do you tell if the stitch is a knit stitch or a purl stitch? Slow down too. Thanks.

  • you keep repeating the phrase" how they lie on the needle" but you never explain what you mean by that. You need to include a variety in your explanations.
