  • Sorry that I didn't see this note earlier. Earth filters are not banned, per se, BUT it's the effluent or the waste from them that's the problem. Many state, counties, municipalities mandate using a separation tank to separate the "used" DE from the waste water. Then you have to figure out how to dispose of the used DE, considered "hazardous material". There are certain "green DE" products such as AquaPearl or PurFiber that are completely bio-degradable as opposed to traditional DE.
