At least Cleburne saved the supply train with his rear guard action at Ringgold Gap, and Bragg resigned a few days later. Joseph E. Johnston should have remained commander of the Army of Tenn- then perhaps Gist, Cleburne, Granbury, Adams, Carter and Strahl all may have survived the war....

i was at my aunts house and i saw the original portrait of states rights gist in her living room and i did some research on him and i found out through my family history that he is very closly related to me. he is either one of my great great great something uncles or grandfathers...im not positive how many greats there are though
