  • Update -

After a long series of emails with Downmat (who made out this was an extremely rare problem), they eventually agreed to take it back, and have replaced it with another one, The newer model with integrated pump, that takes a lot longer to inflate.

To be fair, the new one has been great, no deflation issues, and really comfortable.

But their customer service is weak. If you end up dealing with a guy called Hubi, then God help you.

Dave Perella is better, ask for him.

  • @BoltonBaron when you say "integrated pump", on your replacement, do you mean the new one they sent you is the one with the bag-pump?

  • I had the same problem i emailed exped but got no response, i wont be buying exped again

  • That's why I use closed cell foam mats

  • I had the same problem with an Exped UL pillow after 3 trips, they guy at the shop replaced it straight away and said it was a failure of the sealant on the inside of the fabric ( he had seen the problem before and believed the sealant had not bonded to the fabric) No such problem with the replacement.....yet

  • well I am glad u got it all straightened out but I still dont trust an air mattress.!!!! I was thinking maybe they had gotten better. I have had some that would last a while but it doesnt take long and it leaks.I would carry two closed cell mats before I would carry an air mattress.

Also I had feather pillows years ago and the quills would work there way out and stick me.Maybe that is part of the problem.

  • That is really strange....did they ever provide an explanation as to why this happened ?

  • Brilliant ...I've just started an email chain with exped over EXACTLY the same problem..thanks for bothering to make and post the video...it will give me great leverage over exped...Cheers

  • thanks for that video mate, just were in process of choosing between Exped Downmat and Thermarest Prolite Plus seld inflating, Now it seems clear.

    Thanks a lot !

  • I had exactly the same problem with an Exped air mat (non-down version). It worked fine on one trip, really comfortable, then the next trip kept deflating, so stuck it in the river and just like your mat, tiny leaks all over the top fabric - the bottom fabric seemed fine, so suspect quality issue with the material used for top of mat. Therefore spent rest of holiday lying on the ground, cursing Exped, not quite as politely as you.
