CBS Sunday Morning's offbeat correspondent Bill Geist visits a very unusual bookstore near Princeton, Wisconsin. Lenore & Lloyd Dickmans' bookstore is set on a farm, and the books take up 12 buildings, one of which was built from a slurry tank that once brimmed with cow manure. They are voracious book-collectors, and my family has sold books to them before at the Princeton Flea Market in central Wisconsin.

  • Some sad news to report: The last I've heard, Lloyd is still in a nursing home, and apparently lost some of his memory, as well as his interest in books.

  • Good News!

I just talked with Leonore yesterday and she told me they will be open this weekend through August, on Saturdays only, from 9-4 . She said Lloyd has made substantial progress.

  • Thanks for the update, bkwrm40! I'm glad to hear that Lloyd is on the mend.

  • Anybody know if the Dickmanns got through the recent flooding in Wisconsin?

  • Their farm is OK, folks. Lloyd's new car did get totalled from the flood waters, but all else is OK. He was buying books from my mom as usual this past weekend. (Thanks, Lloyd!)

  • My parents sold books to the Dickmans. What is that--four degrees of separation from Bill Geist?

This is the sort of thing I would travel across the country to see.

  • @DomerCRM114 they are planning to be open the first two saturdays in June

  • Any updates for 2010? I really want to go soon, and I certainly hope all is well for them.

  • I have been there, it is truly wonderful.

  • this is simply amazing. especially that manure tank...that actually looks really nice!!!

  • I was there yesterday . They both seem well and are looking forward to running this episode again . They said there have been 70 ,000 hits on this story at Sunday Morning . The only thing is that only 3 buildings are accessable by the public . :(
