How to feature someone else's video on your YouTube channel.

Hi there! This is Jill from WebGrrl Enterprises, and in this video I'm going to take you through how to feature someone else's video on your YouTube channel.

We'll go through things like: About featured videos, where they show up on your channel, why you'd want to feature someoen else's videos and then go through the configuration steps.

First, let's go through the featured video and where they show up on your channel.

Here I am looking at the Social Media in Central Canada channel, for WebGrrl enterprises. The featured video is the video that by default shows up on the main channel page. So by default, my "Get Connected to the WebGrrl Enterprises Network" video is the featured video.

What I want to do is actually change it, so this new video - this 'Introducing Jane, the Winnipeg Freelancer' WebGrrl TV one - is the new one on display.

Now, in this video I'm actually demonstrating using a video of mine that I uploaded, so it's not a perfect example (I should be using someone else's video), but the way I'm showing you to make it work still works, even though it's my own video.

So before we do it, let's talk a little bit about why you might want to feature someone else's video on your YouTube channel in the first place!

Well, in the case of the Jane video, this is designed to help build popularity for a local meet up group for technical and creative people in Winnipeg. So if you support the cause and would like to help others see the video so there's more people who go to the meetup, one way you can do it is by making this video a Featured video on your channel.

Another reason is - perhaps someone has posted a video that you really like, or a video that is featuring you in an interview or something like that. You may not own the video itself and have it uploaded to your own channel, but you can still feature the video as if it was.

So now, the technical steps towards doing. Really simple. All you need to go is go to the video you want to feature, take the URL on the top and copy it, go to your main channel page and under Videos and Playlists, then under Featured video, choose "Other" and paste in the URL into the box below.

  • Hey man! Nice video! For some reason when I do this it won't use the video I paste in the box? It defaults to my latest produced video and that's not even the choice I made before the change?? So I am thinking that maybe there is a setting I have that prevents me from doing this? I can't figure it out? Can you help me??? Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"

  • Hello, I have gotten permission from one person to re-upload there video to my channel and to not only feature it on my channel(which gets very little views)but to Post it as if it were my own. Is there a way to do this? There must be, this person asked me to do it but I dont know how. Thank you
