  • Interesting...We have been looking to buy in West hampstead...we have friends who have bought there, I must say its one of the nicer areas of London. I wouldn't exactly say it's a 'party' sort of place...It's appeal is more that is is safe...more like family place. You are less likely to get stabbed there...but there is a resident bum who screams at you as you walk past the kebab shop...

  • I agree it is very popular for families, but it also has a lot of young and diverse people living there too..

haha at less likely to get stabbed there - thats true of most of NW London

  • This is really nice promotional videos, it could have been done by the city council itself to promote the West Hampstead area!

    What is goinnnnnggggg ooooonnnnnn...

  • LOL "WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!"

  • Aoplogies, abbyfromoz, but I didn't contribute the snob comment to which you're referring. However, I happen to know London well enough, having been born and raised here. You will find that out of the areas you mentioned, "relatively close" to Shepherds Bush is an acceptable comment (Fulham, Notting Hill Gate and Holland Park are all 1 or 2 stations away - Kensington and Chelsea not many more).

  • we are not talking about catching planes or terror attacks here...we are talking about safe areas to live in London...facts are facts....research it if you don't believe me. My fiancé is a police officer. As much as I hate to admit it a lot of NW London is not the safest area to live in London.

  • You obviously don't know London very well if you think ALL the places I mentioned are near Shepherds Bush....

....so before you say I am pigeon holing myself as a snob...stop pigeon holing Australians to be snake bite drinking, cork hat wearing yobs. I live in NW London and I love it....doesn't change the fact that its not the safest area. Chears.

  • Abby, all those " nice" areas you mentioned are relatively close to Shepherd's Bush - maybe it's best to just be honest and admit you'd like to be living near the Aussie Walkabout? If not, then it's silly to generalise most of NW London as "all Kilburn" (WTF?)

  • Abby - you've just pigeon-holed yourself as a 'snob'. Over 1 million people live within NW London - and they go to work and come home every day. If I followed your rationale, I would not go to the West End (terror attacks), take a plane (Lockerbie) or eat food (health scares).

  • umm lol no...Kilburn...Harlesden...willesden, Neasden,Stonebridge..Acton...all NW all very very dodgy...there are a few pockets of safe areas...Queens park is up and coming and West Hampstead...but if you are honest it's all 'Kilburn'...Harrow road is like crime central...I think the best areas in London would be Fulham, Kensington, Chelsea, Nottinghill Gate, Holland Park...all nice...don't even think about going East...

  • Is that the lion pub west end lane? Looks groovy! Wish I could live upstairs... West Hampstead rocks.
