In 1994 I created a track that I called 'Sagittarius'. As an experiment, I also created a video for the track. The video is a live performance with additional footage (for different cam-angles) and effects.

The main instrument you hear on the track is the Yamaha SY77. Other synths such as Pro-One and Mono/Poly were used for additional effects and sequences. Rhythm sounds are short samples of analog synth sounds on the DSS1.
Sequencing was done on Amiga500 with Music-X software.

I didn't have any editing facilities for video available at the time, except for this fantastic [Insert] button on my VCR. You could add footage over your main video track, without erasing the original sound, which was cool. Drawback: Once you messed up, you had to cover it up with something else that lasts a little longer.

The video contains some flaws, which I preferred not to edit, just to keep it as original as possible.

  • This is excellent footage, excellent sound for having been archived so long. Amazing to see and hear the forward-thinking mind at work back then. And on an Amiga! I didn't even know sequencers existed then. I had a Juno alpha-1! Great tune! Thanks for sharing!

  • @studioman3 Thank's for your great response. Yeah, the Amiga runs the fantastic Music-X sequencer software. Extremely tight and powerful but very low in CPU consumption. It never crashed on me. You could edit it to the deepest possible midi events, and still everything was graphically displayed in a clear visual way, with bright colors and symbols. There was an alternative during these days, such as 'Pipeline' (or something like that), but it wasn't running well on the old 1987 Amiga hardware.

  • This isn't a jarre knock off. It's an original composition. Jarre didn't patent a filter sweep or the use of white noise or even self oscillation. I could just as easily say it was inspired by John carpenter which would be equally ridiculous. But I sure enjoyed listening to the sonic richness of that sequential circuits beast and the other instruments. Nicely done

  • Thanks!

  • Very nice piece. Has a kind of Berlin School feel to it but also definitely has a nineties touch to while having its own style. It would deserve a remake with modern production environment.

  • Probably one of the best synthtracks I know, great music!!

  • heel goed hoor dit, erg tof en oldskool sound. bedankt voor de upload!
