Toronto Mayor, Rob Ford, campaigned and was elected on a platform of "Eliminating the Gravy in Toronto". Unfortunately, his perception of what constitutes "gravy" is not consistent with the majority of constituents that elected him, as they are clear that they DO NOT support any cuts to Toronto Fire Services or increased response times!
Please view this video for more FACTS on Toronto's Fire Fighters and the great services they deliver and sacrifices they make on behalf of the citizens of Toronto.
The interesting thing is, fire departments need to do EMS calls to justify their large numbers. They say they can make it to calls faster (sometimes it is true) but honestly most EMS calls, they are not needed on. What happens if and when a fire does happen when the closest truck is at a medical call babysitting; they can't leave, that is patient abandonment; unethical and illegal. Leave the fire guys in their halls to fight the occaisional fire, and hire enough medics for medical calls.

@laingadaing Then put out some fires, Instead of misleading the public.

A little misleading, don't you think? Very selective on your data. Toronto EMS has only had a 1% increase in staffing and a 36% increase in critical patient call volume since 2001. There are not that many fires and less and less every year due to improved building codes, public awareness and more fireproof materials. Here is a novel idea, put the resources where it is needed.

As usual, facts or truth have nothing to do with the TFD. In the past few months the facts are TFD and the TPFFA have lied or withheld damaging information from the public regarding response times and the ability of TFD to respond to medical emergency calls. You can call paramedics whinners, braggarts, chirpers, whatever. The statistical facts reveal the inability and inconsistency of TFD to do anything but fight fires, sometimes. An intelligent public sees through the scare tactics. Shame

Wow, that was unimpressive.... and biased. I know that the firefighters and the union want to maintain the status quo but this is a very simplistic video that looks like it was made by an intemperate child. It does the ff's no service, way to blow your money, anyone with half a brain could see thru this muck....dumb.

Just a big red propaganda machine. No paramedic has ever said that a fire dept was not neccessary evil; But this video was so full of misleading information. 340 new paramedics? since when 1995, to replace the 400 paramedics that have left, retired, died, whatever. No guaranteed breaks, you get beds, pillows and 24 hour shifts; and if that rare apt. fire happens, you get a big red coffee truck staffed by firefighters to serve refreshments and snacks. Give me a break. Decade old stats?

Put up a Fire-related article/video anywhere in Canada and the chances of a whiny, jaded, passive aggressive paramedic coming in and chirping are extremely high. The Red Headed Step Children of the Emergency services are Notorious for it.

I love how The paramedics chirp firefighters. Love it. Bc the paramedics in my city wait for the firetruck to respond so they can follow them to the call. That is if they don't take every second of the two minutes they are aloud to get to their rig. It's brutal. Ambulance gets the call well before us and about 75 percent of the time we are their first leaving from the same location. If your a paramedic save your breathe. You do your job I'll do mine

You medics are all the same. You brag about how highly trained you are. Wow 2 years of College. When I took the program it was 1 year and already to long for the content. FACT 100%. Most medics whine, compain and cut up Firefighters. You picked your job because you wanted to administer the highest level of care to patients. Instead what you have become is a poison to the Emergency Services and our work environment. Try concentrating your efforts on your job and patient care.

Nothing but fear mongering like always if they were really serious about saving the community why won't they take wage and benefit concessions to hire more front line firefighters like they say they need? They all have second jobs anyway and their wages are well above the normal wage for Canadians not to mention benefits and perks, the only group with a better pension plan are politicians.....fact 100% more dangerous to be a constuction worker than a firefighter
