Should I put the rb30 into my Datsun Z?

I need to know:
Is the rb25 5speed the same length and bolt pattern as the 1988 z31(ss?) trans I've got in my Z?

But after driving this rb30 at 12 lbs,( I thought it was 14) but it's only 12 freaking pounds and it's a bad ass!!! It would make my Z the ultimate freaking car! With my Garrett gt35r on that thing, I just can imagine what 17-20 lbs would feel like? 450? 550 whp? That gives me WOOD

That's why I'm so torn, I know EVERYBODY does the rb swap. I've gone on night rides and after people hear and see my car run they ask what motor and they don't even know what an "L28ET" is. I like that! I like the classiness that makes my car. I love the "old school" factor.

I have the 88 z31 FSR30A in my Z. The info I can find so far is that it's the same as the rb25 trans in length and bolt pattern. If this is true I can keep my drive shaft, and trans in my Z. This makes me want to do it even more now. All I'd have to do is get a motor mount kit, and I think an rb20 oil pan and pick up to clear my Z's cross member. People if this is all true than this swap will most likely happen! I've got to also confirm hood clearance in the Z, since the rb30 is a taller motor.

My Z now has an LSD, and what I think would be the same trans as the rb25, ive got the 1988 300z turbo trans from the (shiro?)the limited edition white model. Just as strong with same internals as the TT 300zx. I've upgraded all that already. All I would need are the custom motor mounts?

HI Big Phil, in new zealand we have a work shop called RIPS, Rotarua import performance shop. they have the world record for the fastest road registed 240z... it does like 7 sec 1/4 mile. they have a few videos on youtube. heres a title for 1 of them

Hi Big Phil i live in New Zealand and the rb30det is so common here and easy to build, people chuck them in anything, but your green ''z'' would benefit alot from this engine swap.

I look forward to seeing it in between the strut towers of the ''z''

I'm interested in the Z32 transmission, driveshaft and adapter plate if you want to sell it. Let me know how much if you're interested.

I think having the rb30 would be more reliable and you would be able to get a lot more power out of it. I think the L28 has reached almost a plateau in terms of performance where you're not going to be able to get that much more power out of it anyways

Hey, Big Phil. Whatever you do you have a win/win situation. I mean if you leave the Z the way it is, you've got a good, classic car with a strong engine, but if you put the rb25 in it, you'll have style and performance. Depends on whether you want to look at the Z from a nostalgic viewpoint and keep it old school or bring it up to spec. Hey, it's your ride, man!
