Those Tandon/WD drives were notorious for going bad. They would just be dead from one day to the other and don't spin up.
as long as this one works, DONT open it up.. working one's of this type are rare.

yup, y're right.. I'll never open it... this drive still works in an Amstrad PC 1640 running DOS perfectly :D
