Although I never really knew this drummer, he's still a drummer.

Jake Hanna - April 4, 1931 - Febuary 12, 2010. He died of complications of a blood disease. RIP

  • nice easy swing very good on drums

  • Because the sound is off: just listen! It's beautiful!

  • he played in the merv griffin show band in NYC for years... swinging!

    thanks for the memoriy

  • Jake was an original and was one of the four main styles of big band drumming. The major styles were Buddy Rich, Mel Lewis, Davey Tough and Jake Hanna in modern times.

  • @BuddyRich45 youtube sometimes messes with the codecs I've had some issues with it myself

  • Check out Jake with Woody Herman's 1964 Band on You Tube. Superb big band drummer. Along with many others I saw him in the UK with that band and he left a lasting impression. There's a story that Eddie Condon's wife was trying to stop him smoking, and showed him a list of musicians who had died of lung cancer. Eddie supposedly looked at the list and said "We're short of a drummer"! Well with Gene and Buddy gone and with Louie Bellson last year and now Jake his choices are getting wider.

  • No it is fine I just wanted you to know
